"Yuzen" is a type of silk fabric using a Japanese traditional resist dyeing technique. Kyo Yuzen, Kaga Yuzen and Edo Yuzen are well-known. These were named after the places that each silk came from: Kyoto, Kanazawa and Tokyo. While the Kyo and Kaga Yuzen are splendid with a rich variety of vivid colors, the Edo Yuzen is sophisticated with a few kinds of quiet colors. Especially indigo makes a striking contrast with white color, each gives a cool impression.
This Obi looks shiny and shows a different appearance from various angles, which is made from silver threads woven into it. Some impressive motifs; a green maple leaf, a red leaf floating on the river, and a spider web with raindrops are in the center. A silver leaf caught by the web is added on the edge. Delicately hand-painted by "Yuzen" artist Michie Suzuki. From spring to autumn, this Obi vividly depicts each season.
The green leaf represents spring, the spider web with rain does early summer, and the red leaf does autumn. If you decorate the Obi like a tapestry, these motifs express the transition of seasons.
